Magic Jack Plus has finally come up with a solution for having to have the Magic Jack plugged into your computer.
The new Magic Jack Plus is more or less a self contained computer just to accommodate the magic jack function. I think a lot of people got tired of having to have the original magic jack plugged into a computer 24x7 to get and make calls. I am included in those people.
They decided to create a new attachment which is Magic Jack Plus. You basically have a device with a regular phone cord jack, USB and Ethernet port, so let’s get into the pro's and cons of this.
For 69.95 you get the new magic jack and 1 year of service.. then after its 19.95 per year until they decide to change that as well..
Con's:
- It's more expensive which in my mind defeats Magic Jack's appeal to a degree.
- Its a lot more expensive up front than the old 39.95 version. Those 30.00 dollars extra would buy you 1.5 years of service using the old version of magic jack.
- You still need a computer to set this up, kind of strange since the idea of this device was to eliminate the need to plug it in.
Pro's:
- Improved call quality, I’ll let this one slip but the call quality has more to do with your internet connection speed and how it is utilized. If you have a stand alone magic jack and your kids are downloading 3 movies, watching Netflix and your spouse is shopping online then your call quality will likely be bad. The quality can also depend on how busy the computer the old magic jack was plugged into is at teh time your makign the call.
- They have also added something called HD voice and Echo Control to try to improve call quality, they seem to work... still testing but appears to be an improvement most of the time.
- Setup is still easy. Should not be a problem for anyone to get this working.
- No need to haul a computer along when you travel in order to user this.
Unknown:
- I have not had a chance to try this out of the country (USA) yet so give me some feedback.
Conclusion:
Magic Jack has come up with a pretty good new upgrade, they have tried to eliminate the need for a computer. They have added a couple of software tweaks to make call quality better and the price is still pretty good.
I'll keep the hub updated with new finding but in the meantime if you like this device please comment and let us know you opinions or questions.

Thx Jen the wonderful HubPage text editor haunted me a bit. Corrected and added some text that for some reason was truncated.
Excellent Hub, I was wondering about the magic Jack plus. I have the regular Magic Jack and it's great, but don't want to pay for the upgrade. Thanks.
I did spot a few typos. See you last line in the Pros section (plugged into is at teh time your makign the call.)
